ColourPop Cosmetics: Blue Moon Pressed Powder Palette

Hey Beautiful!

August is ending. School is starting. Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Latte has returned. And brands continue to churn out products like there’s no tomorrow.

ColourPop released the Blue Moon Pressed Powder Palette back in May. Blue is my favorite color and I’ve been trying some new things, so I decided to purchase it. For $12.00 plus tax (and shipping), you get a 9-pan palette with 5 mattes and 4 shimmers. Each pan contains 1.10 grams of product, so there’s a decent price to product ratio.

 Swatches

  • Mattes
    • Da Ba Dee: lapis blue
    • Moonlite: baby blue
    • Starry Eyed: sky blue
    • Fine China: vibrant cobalt blue
    • Clued In: navy
  • Metallics
    • Lumi: iridescent icy blue
    • Billie Jean: periwinkle
    • Tide Pool: cerulean
    • Mad About U: sapphire

The shadows are buttery like the Ooh La La Palette, but they do not swatch well. I read a while back that it is difficult to formulate blue eyeshadow, so that may explain the patchiness I observed in the mattes. The metallic shades are all beautiful and would make nice toppers.

Review

To get the full impact of these shades, a white base would work best. I used my L.A. Girl HD Pro Concealer in Fairest to prime my lids.

I packed Fine China into my crease. I then blended Starry Eyed above my crease. I cut my crease with the L.A. Girl HD Pro Concealer in Fairest and layered NYX Professional Makeup’s Glitter Primer on top. I then packed Billie Jean onto my lid along with Mad About U toward my outer crease. I used a bit of Clued In to deepen my outer crease. I added some of Fine China and Clued In on my lower lash line. I lined my waterline with DTLA from ColourPop and used Lumi as my inner corner highlight.

Although I liked the final look, it was a lot. An all blue look certainly makes a statement. What is that statement? I don’t know. The shadows wore well as I noticed little creasing on my eyelids.

Final Thoughts

I don’t think Blue Moon is a must-have. The mattes are a bit difficult to work with, so creating a look takes time and patience. It’s also not the most wearable palette. An all blue look would probably not fly in most workplaces. That said, it is fun if you’re looking to get creative with color and you can’t beat the price point.
