Chentilly Cosmetics: Suns Out Buns Out Eyeshadow Palette

Hey Beautiful!

I hope spring is treating you well. We have some chilly days and some nice days here in New York City. I don’t know about you, but I cannot wait for consistently warm weather.

I began following Chentilly Cosmetics, a fairly new black-owned, indie brand, on Instagram last year. Not long after, they released the Suns Out Buns Out Eyeshadow Palette. Suns Out Buns Out is the quintessential warm-toned palette. There are eight matte shades and four shimmers. The color story is cohesive and screams summertime fun.

Swatches

  • Mattes
    • Hot Tamale: vibrant red
    • Sunny: burnt orange
    • B.B.B.: soft orange brown
    • Sand Castle: warm brown
    • Sun Bum: deep bold brown
    • Honey Bun: glowing yellow
    • Nudie Bootie: soft tan
    • Fuego: bright orange
  • Shimmers
    • Senorita: fiery red
    • Tan Lines: brown with gold reflects
    • Glazed: yellow with gold reflects
    • Mimosa: orange

Overall, the mattes are alright. Hot Tamale, Sunny, B.B.B., Nudie Bootie, and Fuego are very pigmented. I struggled with the others, especially Honey Bun and Sun Bum. Honey Bun is a vibrant shade but it was faint when I swatched it on my arm. I had to swipe several times before I got the full effect of the shade. Sun Bum is the deepest matte in this palette, but the formula is powdery and light. Again, I had to apply several layers before it appeared against my skin.

The shimmers are amazing. I absolutely love each shade. They apply smoothly and pack a punch. I highly recommend these shimmers if you’re trying to take your look to the next level.

Review

Given my issues with a few of the mattes, I decided to prime my lids with my L.A. Girl HD Pro Concealer in Fairest. I figured a white base would help the mattes stand out.

I worked from my eyebrow to my eyelid. I swept B.B.B close to my eyebrow and then buffed Sand Castle to my outer crease as the transition shade. I then cut my crease with my L.A. Girl HD Pro Concealer in Fairest. Beginning from my inner corner, I packed on Honey Bun, Fuego, and Hot Tamale. I lined my crease with a mixture of Glazed, Mimosa, and Senorita. I added a bit of Honey Bun, Fuego, and Hot Tamale to my lower lash line.

I really liked the final look. It was vibrant and reminded me of a sunset on a warm day. The shimmers were bold in person and I noticed little creasing on my eyelids.

Final Thoughts

I don’t think the Suns Out Buns Out Eyeshadow Palette is a must-have. There are a lot of warm-toned palettes out there, so you probably already own similar shades. However, it is fun and the shimmers are outstanding, so it would make a great addition to any collection.
