Hey Beautiful!
It’s been a while. Grad school kicked my butt these lasts few months. Luckily, the semester is over! You (and these products) now have my undivided attention.
ColourPop released the Ooh La La Pressed Powder Shadow Palette back in October. More specifically, they released it on Wednesday, October 3. I imagine they wanted to cash in on the Mean Girls reference. I’ve only seen the movie once, but I thought the palette was cute and decided to buy it. If you’re keeping score at home, I purchased it on October 3 and tried it out for the first time yesterday…I told you, grad school was kicking my butt.
I’m a neutral eyeshadow girl, but I’ve been feeling adventurous lately so the idea of an an all-pink palette was appealing. For $12.00 plus tax (and shipping), you get a 9-pan palette. Each pan contains 1.10 grams of product, so the price to product ratio is very reasonable.
I am not a fan of arm swatches because my arms are lighter than my face. However, I can’t deny that this is a good way to show how colors look against skin. The shadows are buttery, but I do not think they swatch well.
I originally planned to do two eye looks with the Ooh La La Palette, but I struggled with its application. This was my first time using a ColourPop product, so it did make me worry about their formula.
I began with my usual foundation routine and then applied the Wet n Wild Photo Focus Eyeshadow Primer to my lids. I swept Soft Core onto my outer crease before building up to darker shades. The pigmentation was good, but it may have been too good. Soft Core was so light against my skin that it appeared clownish. I applied Poodle and Caddy hoping to soften the transition from Soft Core to my skin, but it managed to look worse. I just could not get the shades to blend well. I ultimately chose to abandon this look. I used Lancôme’s Bi-Facil Double Action Eye Makeup Remover and began again. This time, I applied one of my L.A. Girl HD Pro Concealers as a lid primer and did not set it with a powder. This technique also didn’t work well. I think the base was too wet for the matte shadows.
I thought about posting pictures of these failed attempts, but the internet lives forever and my future husband does not need to see them.
After another swipe of the eye makeup remover, I settled on priming my lids with my Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Foundation. Third time was the charm; I was able to create a look!
Is she cute or is she cute? Yes, those are the only two options. I really liked the final look. I wore it for about eight hours and saw little to no creasing. I will say that without eyeshadow primer, the shadows appeared more purple than pink against my skin. The intended color will probably be more evident on lighter skin tones.
Overall, I like the Ooh La La Palette. I probably will not use it alone in the future because I found myself needing a brown transition shade. It will make for a cute accessory to a neutral palette or as an extension to a rainbow palette. It’s certainly a nice pop of color, but I don’t think it’s a must-have.
