NYX Cosmetics: Can’t Stop Won’t Stop Full Coverage Foundation

Hey Beautiful!

Thank you for reading my first (and long overdue) post. This blog has been a labor of love and I do hope you enjoy it. On to the review…

I was in the market for a new foundation to match my darker summer skin tone. Although I love my Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation, I did not want to spend the money for a bottle of a deeper shade. So I was very excited to learn that after collaborating with Alissa Ashley, NYX Professional Makeup would release the Can’t Stop Won’t Stop Full Coverage (CSWS) Foundation in 45 shades!

I purchased my bottle for $15 plus tax about three weeks ago from the NYX store in Manhattan. Initially, I tried to choose a shade on my own by swatching multiple shades along my jaw. I wanted to make sure I chose a  shade that matched both my face and my neck. To be honest, they seemed very similar to one another so I ultimately asked a sales associate for help with the undertones. We decided on Cocoa, a “deep deep with neutral undertone” as NYX describes it.

I have very oily skin, so I like to begin with a matte base. Thus, I primed my skin using Lancôme’s La Base Pro Perfecting Makeup Primer then set the primer with Sacha Cosmetics’ Buttercup Powder before applying the foundation. CSWS has a very thin consistency. It is comparable to the Pro Filt’r Foundation, but I would argue this is even more runny. The application, however, was easy and I liked the finish. It feels matte but certainly not cake-y.

On the left is my face with primer and some setting powder. On the right is my face after I applied the CSWS Foundation. Talk about a great shade match!

I did some highlighting with the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Truffle  and finished with MAC Cosmetics’ Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Dark Deepest. I then applied some eyeshadow, mascara, lip gloss and voila!  Notice what I did not put on? Blush! How terrible considering it’s in the name of this blog. I was getting ready for class when I decided to give this foundation a try, and in my haste to get to class on time, I completely forgot about applying some blush.

Six hours and three classes later and I was back in my apartment. As I mentioned before, I have very oily skin so I did need to blot and reapply my Mineralize Skinfinish Natural twice in that time period. Unfortunately, it made no difference. As my sister would say, I looked “a little greasy.” The picture below was taken without flash, but the shine all over my face is very apparent. I don’t blame the formula; that’s just how my skin behaves. However, based on this wear test I would not describe it as a truly matte foundation.  Even so, I do like NYX’s Can’t Stop Won’t Stop Foundation and expect to use it often.
